Why you should never skip a dog walk

A study conducted by Michigan State University highlights the benefits of walking your dog, revealing that ⅔ of dog owners regularly take their dogs for walks, while the rest rely on a yard for their dog’s bathroom breaks. However, skipping those walks can have a significant impact on your dog’s emotional and physical well-being.

Dogs need exercise, and they can't get enough of it on their own. Depending on their breed and age, some dogs require more exercise than others. A typical yard often doesn't provide the stimulation or movement dogs need, as it quickly becomes familiar territory.

Allowing your dog to sniff and explore during walks engages their minds, making the experience more enjoyable. Some even liken sniffing to a dog "checking their email." Your pup might want to take their time on some walks, savoring every scent.

So, the next time you consider skipping your dog’s walk, remember how much they love the adventure. Walking is healthy for both you and your dog, offering a chance to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine together. Just look at how the sunshine transformed Cricket’s life in the previous story.

After 600 days in the shelter, this pup finds a home:

The Benton Franklin Humane Society recently celebrated a significant milestone as their longest resident, Snoopy, finally found his forever home. Snoopy, a senior dog with some health challenges, had captured the hearts of many with his friendly demeanor. The dedicated staff worked tirelessly to find the right fit for him, and his story even went viral a few times in videos.

One devoted volunteer made it her mission to find Snoopy a home. She collaborated with other organizations she knew, and eventually, Andrea stepped in to foster him. It didn't take long for Snoopy to become a "foster fail," finding his forever home with Andrea. On the day Snoopy left the shelter, the staff lined up outside to cheer him on and celebrate the joyous occasion. After 600 days of waiting, Snoopy finally found his perfect match!
