Can Dogs Sense Pregnancy?
We’ve all heard those funny tales from dog parents about how their pups just knew there was a tiny human on the way! Some dogs seem to have a sixth sense about it, while others act like nothing’s changed at all. We can’t exactly ask our furry friends what they think, but guess what? There’s some pretty neat evidence that dogs can sense pregnancy because of their super-duper senses!
First up, their noses! Dogs have about 300 million smell receptors—way more than our measly six million! They can sniff out all kinds of things, from sneaky treats to, yes, pregnancy. When you’re expecting, your body goes through some hormone changes, creating a new scent that your dog can sniff out from a mile away. It’s like they have their own superhero nose! Dogs can detect different smells
And let’s not forget their amazing ears! Dogs can hear sounds from four times farther away than we can. So, if we can hear a baby’s heartbeat with fancy tools, you better believe your pup can hear it without any help! You might notice your dog laying their head on your belly, ears perked up, as if they’re listening to a secret concert inside!
Even without their super senses, dogs are really good at picking up on how their humans feel. They notice when we change our behavior or when our bodies look different.
If your dog starts following you everywhere, showing extra love, or cuddling with your belly, they might just know there’s a new little buddy on the way! How did your furry friend react to your baby bump?

Terminally ill Dog Experiences a Music Festival
Ashley McClain loves her sweet dog, Kygo. He’s seven years old, but he’s been diagnosed with terminal cancer called osteosarcoma. Heartbroken, Ashley decided to create a bucket list to fill their time together with joy and love.
One of the biggest dreams on that list was for Kygo to be photographed by the Dogist in New York City. On June 2, that wish came true! When Ashley shared the beautiful photo on Instagram, thousands of people flooded her with messages of support, reminding her just how much love surrounds them.
Ashley also wished for Kygo to meet DJ Kygo, the musician he was named after. The DJ saw the post and was deeply moved by their story. He invited Ashley and Kygo to the Palm Tree Music Festival, turning that wish into a magical reality.
To top it all off, the wonderful person behind the Dogist helped with Kygo’s medical costs and generously donated $10,000 to canine cancer research. This heartwarming journey shows the special bond between a dog and their owner and the kindness of others during tough times. It’s a reminder that love can shine bright, even in the darkest moments.

5 Ways to Prep Your Fur Baby for the Human Baby
Bringing home a new baby with tiny feet instead of paws is an exciting change for dogs! Some pups might need a little time to adjust, while others will be ready to be the best big brother or sister right away. Here are five fun ways to help your dog get ready for their new buddy!
Set Up Baby Space Early: Your home will soon have bouncers, highchairs, and colorful toys everywhere! Setting up these things early gives your dog a chance to explore. Let them sniff around and reward them with treats so they feel good about it!
Play Baby Sounds: Babies make lots of noises, and they can surprise dogs! Play baby sounds softly while your dog is enjoying a snack or playing. Gradually turn up the volume so they get used to the new sounds.
Introduce Baby Smells: Newborns smell amazing! Bring home a blanket or hat from the baby or ask friends with babies for some clothes. Your dog will love sniffing around for those new smells!
Set New Routines: A baby means some changes, like shorter walks and less playtime. Start adjusting your dog's routine early so it doesn’t feel sudden. Don’t worry—your pup will get their special time again!
Teach Commands: With a baby in the house, clear commands are super important! Go over basic commands like sit and stay to help your dog behave around the little one.
Remember, it’s a big change for you, too! When I was pregnant, I thought my love for my dogs wouldn’t change, but it did! Some days felt busy, but other times, I was so happy to have my gentle pups. This phase won’t last forever. You’ll find a new normal, and when your baby says your dog’s name, it will be a sweet reminder of their special bond! 🐾💖
